With everything going on in the world out there I had a thought pop up in my head that I couldn’t stop thinking about. What’s going to happen with the expected release of new consoles that was anticipated for the holiday season this year?
With Foxconn having assembled their consoles in the past, and only recently having reopened some of their warehouses in China, it can only be assumed that they have a backlog of things to put together. That coupled with the fact that they may not even be operating with a full work force points to even further delays.
Even assuming that they are able to catch up on assembly of items they still will need the components to get to them in the first place. With global shutdowns I can not imagine everything meeting the original target dates. Not that Sony and Microsoft won’t be attempting to make it happen anyhow.
With a recent dip in their stock prices both companies will likely delay announcing any set backs until they come to the conclusion that there is no way to catch up. I personally will be keeping an eye on their stock prices over the next few months, might be a great time to be a “part owner” of the company!
Now I know a few of you might be thinking “what about Nintendo?” Well they’ve already announced a delay in their production. The updated version of their 3 year old console and they are already having issues keeping up supplies thanks to the impacts of the Covid-19. Their stock prices are also taking a hit just like everything else on the market.
All in all I wouldn’t be getting my hopes up for that fresh new console this Christmas. Instead I would be planning on sometime next year, maybe as far as the 2021 holiday season depending on how everything unravels.
