Survivor.io Mobile Game Review

I’ve been on the hunt lately for a mobile game that would be fun to have on my phone. It’s tough to find something that is fun to play and easy to jump into without completely sucking me in. I don’t want to end up spending hours a day on my phone. I just want to have something that is a great time killer for those moments I’m just waiting around for something. Survivor.io did not hit the mark for me.

The Good

Survivor.io wasn’t bad to start. It has a lot of good reviews and I didn’t see any reviews complaining about being bombarded with ads. I figured “perfect, worth taking a chance on”. I will admit I don’t think I had more than one ad pop up the whole time I was playing.

The gameplay is simple to understand. You move around the map and try and stay away from everything else. While doing so picking up these little green crystals that will build up a meter towards upgrades. Once you earn an upgrade you’ll be presented with three options to choose from and they’ll automatically apply. IE if you choose a cannon it’ll go off at regular intervals without you determining timing or direction. So all you have to do is keep moving around.

The Bad

The game gets really boring very quickly.

All you have to do is move around. If you’re good at it than your game last a really long time without any satisfying evolution. Getting advanced weapons, magnets, health, it all feels pointless when you just continue doing the same thing. In the end I only died because I wanted it to be more interesting and started taking the sketchier routes of escape. It didn’t make it much more exciting but did end it at least.

All in all there wasn’t really anything wrong with this game. If you’re looking for something completely mindless than this will work perfectly for you. If you need something with even a little bit of challenge I would suggest looking elsewhere.
